Ruben Amorim sets embarrassing 91-year record at Manchester United
The turbulent season for Manchester United has taken another dramatic turn, with new manager Ruben Amorim finding himself etched in the club’s history books for all the wrong reasons.
After just ten games at the helm, the Portuguese coach has shattered a record no Manchester United boss would ever want to claim.

Amorim’s latest setback came on Boxing Day, as Wolverhampton Wanderers—a side battling to escape the relegation zone—sealed a 2-0 victory over the Red Devils at Molineux. The defeat marked Amorim’s fifth loss in his first ten matches across all competitions, a feat not seen since Walter Crickmer in January 1932.
In Premier League history, Amorim has now also become the fastest United manager to hit four league defeats, achieving the dubious milestone in just seven games. This unwanted record was previously held by Erik ten Hag, who reached four losses after 13 matches during his early struggles at Old Trafford.
Speaking after the defeat, Amorim acknowledged the uphill battle he faces in transforming a disjointed United squad.
“They need time to train. They are completely changing the way of playing. It’s hard on them, and it’s hard on us as staff,” said the 39-year-old.
He added:
“We have to fight through these bad moments and win games to sell the idea to the players. If not, it’s really hard.”
