Amnesty International: Lagos Police stop arresting protesters
Lagos Police Command must desist from arresting protesters at the Lekki toll gate plaza where a memorial protest is ongoing, Amnesty International.
On their Twitter page Wednesday, Amnesty wrote, “Lagos: stop arresting protesters. Lagos: stop arresting protesters. Lagos: stop arresting protesters. Lagos: stop arresting protesters. Lagos: stop arresting protesters.”
The protesters came out in a car procession to the Lekki toll gate to commemorate the alleged killings of Nigerians on the same day last year. However, men of the Nigerian Police have been arresting harmless protesters.
Another man, who was clad in white and bearing an #EndSARS banner, was also arrested by the policemen.
Abimbola said he had misplaced his identity card but had his driver’s license in his car parked nearby. He alleged that the officers hit him after they dragged him by his belt into their parked van.
Amnesty International (also referred to as Amnesty or AI) is an international non-governmental organization focused on human rights, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom.
