Aminu Tambuwal wins Sokoto governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Aminu Tambuwal as winner of the governorship election in Sokoto state.

Aminu Tambuwal secured the highest number of votes cast in Sokoto supplementary election.

He polled 25,857 votes ahead of Aliyu Ahmed  of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who had 25,515 votes.

The margin between the duo is 342.

Tambuwal, who is also the incumbent governor, polled the highest votes in the March 9 election that was declared inconclusive. He had secured 489,558 votes while his rival polled 486,145 votes.

The final figures both candidates garnered in the election are 512,002 for Tambuwal and 511,661 for Ahmed, leaving a margin of 341.

Electoral officials are summing up the figures ahead of the final announcement.
