Musician Cat Janice, who gained viral fame for dedicating her final song to her young son, has tragically passed away at the age of 31 after battling sarcoma cancer.
Her family took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking news, revealing that Cat Janice died peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 28th, in the comfort of her childhood home.
They expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and support received during Cat’s illness, and assured fans that her brother would continue managing her brand, ensuring that more of her art, which she had hoped to release, would reach the public.
“We are eternally thankful for the outpouring of love that Catherine and our family have received over the past few months,” the family’s statement conveyed.
“Cat saw her music go places she never expected and rests in the peace of knowing that she will continue to provide for her son through her music. This would not have been possible without all of you.”
Cat Janice gained significant attention with her song “Dance You Outta My Head,” released on January 19th.
The track soared to No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 and reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. On Spotify, the song garnered over 12.8 million streams worldwide.
The touching story behind the song began when Cat Janice, in a TikTok video shared early January, revealed her cancer battle, expressing that “cancer has won” after a fierce fight.
In another update, she shared her determination to see her final song released, despite undergoing radiation therapy, emphasizing her desire to leave behind something for her 7-year-old son. All proceeds from the song were dedicated to him.
“Dance You Outta My Head” quickly became a sensation on TikTok, inspiring nearly 200,000 dance videos set to its catchy pop tune. Influencers such as Charli D’Amelio joined in, urging their followers to stream the song.
