American icon Mariah Carey hit with double heartbreak

American music icon Mariah Carey has been hit by an unimaginable double tragedy.

The Grammy-winning singer revealed in a statement on Monday that both her mother, Patricia, and her estranged sister, Alison, passed away on the same day last weekend. The exact causes of death remain undisclosed, and Mariah Carey refrained from specifying the day of their passing.

Patricia Carey, a celebrated opera singer, was a guiding force in Mariah’s rise to fame, collaborating with her daughter and inspiring the musical journey that would make Mariah Carey a household name.

In contrast, the relationship between Mariah and her sister Alison was strained for years, with Mariah previously admitting in her memoir that it was “emotionally and physically safer” to distance herself from Alison and their brother Morgan.

Mariah’s statement reflects the depth of her grief:

“My heart is broken that I have lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I was blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”

This tragic news comes more than two decades after the loss of Mariah’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, who succumbed to cancer in 2002.
