Alex Iwobi is being paid too much–Columnist Mike Keegan on Everton player
Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi has come under heavy fire from Daily Mail Columnist, Mike Keegan over his Everton career and form in general.
The Columnist picks issue on the player not having justified his transfer to the Merseyside club on such huge transfer fee and weekly wages. The writer in his latest piece for the Daily Mail discussed problems facing the Toffees this season and highlighted the Nigerian International as one of the club’s problems and the mistakes made by the owners.
“Sound bizarre? It gets better,” he wrote. “At the time, the £28m paid to Arsenal for Alex Iwobi seemed about £20m too much. Insiders say the former Gunner’s weekly salary would make you weep. In fairness to Iwobi, who may well play a key role in keeping the Toffees up, he is far from the only one that applies.” The writer alleged.
He also claimed the wages of some of the club’s individuals at Goodison Park can be considered too much compared to the performance they’ve put in this season on the pitch.
Although, Alex Iwobi has played so much, in part this season, specifically towards the end of the season to help Everton avoid relegation, Keegan does have a point in his statements, considering the Midfielder hasn’t lived up to the hype he rode in upon signing.
According to club insiders, it is believed Iwobi could be among the players on huge wages that the club could be let go in order to rebuild the team after the disastrous campaign.
It should not be forgotten though that Iwobi played a key part in Frank Lampard’s side escaping relegation during their 3-2 win over Patrick Viera’s Crystal Palace on Wednesday, the very fixture that saw the Palace boss attacked on pitch by fans.
