Akeredolu neglects Rufus Giwa poly- PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party Ondo State chapter, has accused the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of neglecting the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and destroying some of the projects left behind by the previous government.
This was contained in a statement released by the state publicity secretary of the PDP, Mr Kennedy Peretei, on Sunday.
The party however called on the governor to rescue the school from total collapse.
He said, “Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo has become a ghost of its former self since the coming of Rotimi Akeredolu. Incidentally, the governor hails from the ancient town too.
“Why he allowed this level of ruin in the only government-owned tertiary institution in his birthplace beats one’s imagination.
“The polytechnic’s staff school that had operated for more than 25 years was closed down for no good reason. The staff and students were left in the cold. The governor’s friends and allies amongst the staff were absorbed in the already over-staffed polytechnic’s nominal roll.
“Subventions to the school have been on the decline while the school is being loaded with new staff from Akeredolu and his aides.
“Workers have not been promoted in the last three years. Even jobs that are awarded by TETFund are hijacked by the governor’s cronies. The entire place has been reduced to something near hell. As it stands, the school has more staff than students because of an increase in school fees, which students cannot afford.”
In response, the Commissioner for Information, Mr Donald Ojogo, in a statement said the Akeredolu-led administration had turned around for good the fortune of the tertiary institutions in the state than the last PDP administration.
The statement read in part, “If the role of the opposition is to be the watchdog, it then means the PDP has failed in this regard.
The people of Ondo State will not forget in a hurry how the immediate past PDP administration sacked over 30 workers of the same institution they have turned around to ‘protect’.
Rufus Giwa polytechnic was established by edict in 1979 with the name The Polytechnic, Owo by the outgoing Military Governor Sunday Tuoyo. Executive Governor Adekunle Ajasin began to operate the polytechnic immediately he took office in early 1980. It was renamed Ondo State Polytechnic in 1990.
