Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation unveils 4-revamped PHCs in Edo

The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, a philanthropic organisation committed to increasing access to quality primary healthcare across Africa, in partnership with the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN) and Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EdoSPHCDA) is set to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially hand over four newly renovated Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Owan West, Ikpoba Okha, Oredo, and Uhunmwode local government areas in Edo State to their respective communities.

This event marks the first phase of the Foundation’s multibillion naira commitment to renovate 23 PHCs across Nigeria under the Adopt-A-Healthcare-Facility Programme (ADHFP).

The ADHFP, an initiative launched by PSHAN, seeks to ensure that every Nigerian, regardless of geographical or socio-economic status, has access to equitable, affordable, and world-class healthcare services within each of the country’s 774 local government areas. Acknowledging the pressing challenges in Nigeria’s healthcare system — including widespread poverty, inequality, and the growing burden of disease — the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation committed in November 2021 to adopt 23 PHCs, 18 of which are located in Edo State.

The renovation and revitalisation of these healthcare centres reflect a transformative approach aimed at significantly enhancing service delivery. Equipped with modern facilities and essential medical supplies, these centres will improve patient care and strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure. This project not only addresses immediate healthcare needs but also serves as a model for similar efforts across Africa, advancing the vision of a healthier and more equitable continent.

Speaking on the Foundation’s commitment, Mrs. Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, Co-Founder and Executive Vice Chair of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, remarked:

“A healthy population is the cornerstone of sustainable development. The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation is steadfast in its commitment to bridging the healthcare gap by revitalizing Primary Healthcare Centres in underserved communities. The inauguration of the first 4 renovated PHCs in Edo State marks a crucial step toward our vision of a healthier, more equitable future for all Nigerians.”

Dr. Tinuola Akinbolagbe, MD/CEO of the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN), added:

Our partnership with the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation represents a significant milestone in addressing the healthcare gap in Nigeria. The ribbon-cutting event symbolizes not just the completion of a project, but the beginning of a new chapter in our commitment to improving healthcare across Nigeria. Through the ADHFP initiative, we aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of people in underserved communities transforming healthcare delivery throughout the country.”

The upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony symbolizes a pivotal moment in the Foundation’s broader mission to improve primary healthcare delivery. With these facilities now ready to serve their communities, the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation hopes to inspire further support for the Adopt-A-Healthcare-Facility Programme, encouraging other stakeholders to join in the effort to renovate and revitalize more PHCs across Nigeria.

This partnership between the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, PSHAN, and EdoSPHCDA exemplifies the power of public-private partnership in transforming the healthcare sector. It highlights how strategic partnerships can drive sustainable development and promote equitable, high-quality healthcare access for all Nigerians.
