ABOUT
Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter.
EARLY LIFE
Adekunle Gold was born into a royal family of Lagos state, Nigeria. He was born in 28th January, 1987.

He holds the title of prince, hence the “omoba” in his name. Although both his parents were Muslims, they gave him and his three female siblings religion freedom and that was how Adekunle Gold was able to join a church’s choir where his passion for singing kicked off. At the age of 15 he wrote his first song and joined a band known as the Bridge.

CAREER
He gained widespread popularity after releasing “Sade”, a highlife hit single which is a cover of “Sorry of My Life” by the sensational One Direction Pop band. In 2015, Adekunle signed a record deal with the Olamide-led YBNL Nation record label, releasing his debut studio album titled “Gold” which debuted on the Billboard World Albums chart at number 7. Prior to releasing Gold, he released three hit singles: “Sade”, “Pick Up”, and “Orente”. Before his signing to YBNL as a music artist, he was working as a graphic designer for the record label and one of his notable designs was the label’s official logo.

The singer issued his debut album, Gold, near the end of 2016 in Nigeria and globally in early 2017 as he issued four more singles in quick succession: “Work,” Only Girl,” “Call on Me,” and “Money.” The album was picked up for airplay by state-run radio throughout the African continent, as well as European stations in Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Spain, and England; it eventually reached public and college radio and then streaming in the U.S. and peaked at number seven on the World Music Albums charts. In addition to his first three singles, the album included the hits “No Forget (feat. Simi)” and “Work.”

In 2018, Adekunle Gold was a featured collaborator on the hit single “Original Gangster” with SESS and Reminisce and released the self-penned hit “IRE” (a year later the track was remixed and re-released twice, by DJs Pheelz and El Mukukua). Gold’s sophomore album, About 30, was released to international fanfare and featured guest spots by Dya on “Down with You,” Seun Kuti on “Mr. Foolish,” and Flavour N’bania on “Yoyo.” The set peaked at number nine on the World Music Albums chart. Gold wasted no time. He toured the nation, then the continent, and issued a handful of charting singles through 2019, including “Kelegbe Megbe,” “Before You Wake Up,” “Adiza,” and “Promise.” In early 2020 he released the streaming hit “Jore” featuring Kizz Daniel.

On his latest single Sinner, Adekunle Gold sounds at his most free and fulfilled yet.

The track, released earlier this year, is Afropop of the smooth, soulful and elegant kind, teaming up with New Orleans artist Lucky Daye on the song and his wife (and Afrobeats royalty) Simi for the visuals.

Sinner follows the wildly infectious It Is What It Is, both of which feature on his as-yet-untitled album, which is slated for release this year. The record sees Gold fully embrace Afropop, a sound he says has “changed his life” after previously feeling like he had been “put in a box” musically.

He said— “This project is about becoming me,” he explains. “Coming from how I started and how I came out in the industry as a high life musician, people were used to that part of me, but what they don’t know is that I am more than that.

“After Gold I decided the next album About 30 was going to be a bit more than high life. It got some love and some criticism as well, because people don’t always adapt to change, which I completely get, but after that I decided I’m not going to be afraid anymore.”

AG reveals that after much soul searching and “a lot of sacrifices and damning all consequences,” he made the shift into Afropop, a move that he says changed his life. “It’s one of the best decisions I ever made. It really took me from what people used to know about me. My songs now cross more languages, and it’s put me on a whole new pedestal. Now, I have broken free from that box people wanted to put me in.”

AG says his new album proves he’s “here to stay,” its sound and lyrics defining who he really is. And said “I cannot wait for the world to hear this album.”
