A legal practitioner, Junaid Sanusi, has sued Access Bank Plc for N100 million, alleging unlawful deductions from his savings account.

The case was heard at the Federal High Court in Ibadan on Monday, where Sanusi argued that the bank had been deducting more than the N50 electronic levy mandated by the Finance Act, 2019.

He claimed deductions of N100, N250, and other amounts were made as FGN electronic levies, contrary to the law’s provision.

Sanusi asked the court to determine whether Access Bank’s actions were lawful under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) guidelines of 2020, demanding that the bank be restrained from further deductions and that the unlawfully deducted amounts be refunded.

He also sought N100 million in damages for the alleged unauthorized deductions.

In defense, Access Bank’s counsel, Ahmed Adeleke, stated that the deductions were in compliance with legal provisions.

He reviewed Sanusi’s account statements and claimed that the bank had not exceeded the legally stipulated charges.

The case has been adjourned until November 12 for judgment.
