Others at the meeting comprise Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah; Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III; and other National Peace Committee members.

As indicated by the minister who was a guest at the meeting, the forum took place at Transcorp Hilton Hotel in the Federal Capital Territory.

Aregbesola tweeted, “Earlier today, I honoured an invitation to a Key Stakeholders Meeting by the National Peace Committee headed by Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.”

Although Aregbesola did not express the intent or outcome of deliberations at the meeting, it might not be unrelated to the security challenges tormenting the country recently. The meeting might also not be unrelated to the rising calls for break up by different groups in the nation, and the 2023 elections.

Intellectualised in 2014 in reaction to evolving threats caused by the 2015 general elections, the “National Peace Committee seeks to identify and articulate all the challenges that derail credible elections and peaceful transfer of power in Nigeria.”
