Court grants DCP Abba Kyari temporary bail to bury his mother

DCP Abba Kyari, former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, has been granted temporary bail by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja.

The bail, issued on compassionate grounds, allows Kyari to attend his mother’s burial. Kyari’s mother, Yachilla Kyari, passed away on May 5, 2024.

Under the terms of the bail, Kyari must pay 50 million Naira and provide a surety in like sum, with his counsel serving as the surety. Additionally, his counsel must deposit a copy of his call-to-bar certificate with the court.

Kyari is also required to surrender his travel passport and report to the nearest NDLEA formation during the two-week bail period. The bail is pending the ruling of Kyari’s formal bail application, set for May 31, 2024.

TopNaija recalled that Kyari has faced legal troubles, including an indictment by the FBI in 2021 in connection with alleged internet fraud.

He was also arrested by the NDLEA in February 2020 for alleged drug-related offenses and has been in custody at the Kuje prison in Abuja.

Kyari was first granted conditional bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties in like sum with registered properties in the matter FRN Vs Abba Kyari and 2 others 11 months ago by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
