"Aba will be my first stop" -- Finidi George

Super Eagles coach, Finidi George who was recently announced as the Nigeria national team’s head coach has vowed to visit Aba more after leaving Enyimba Football Club.

Addressing his style of management moving forward, Finidi George promises to integrate more home based players into the Super Eagles set up, with Aba being the first place he will go to hunt for talent.

In his farewell speech in Aba, the former Enyimba coach expressed optimism about selecting players from the “People’s Elephant” for the Super Eagles.

“Definitely, I will still come back to Aba to watch Enyimba play because my duty now is to mix the Super Eagles team up with the home-based players,” Finidi told the media.

“Aba definitely will be my first destination when I come to watch Enyimba play. Most likely, I will see one or two that I can take with me to the Super Eagles.”

The lack of interest in home based talents has been a recurring narrative amongst Nigerian fans who on many occasions have finger pointed foreign coaches of subtly having a bias for local talents as against the foreign based players.

The former Ajax player and Champions League winner has vowed to change this narrative after becoming national team coach.
