A disappointment to the Premier League, Get Out—Whelan slams

For Former Leeds United striker, Noel Whelan, the premier league may not be a league that every out and about player can play in just because they have pace alone.

Speaking as a heavy critic of Chelsea forward, Timo Werner, he brands the player’s spell at the club as a huge disappointment considering the expectations he came under.

It has led the pundit to give the German international a simple advise to ‘get out’ of the club if he is not happy in the premier league or at Stamford Bridge.

This comes in response to some comments the former RB Leipzig player made about his place in the Chelsea team and him fighting for a World Cup place in the Germany team.

Timo Werner came into the club on the back of a big money deal in the summer of 2020 with Liverpool and Chelsea both after his signature after scoring 34 goals in 45 games.

Liverpool were the most touted to sign the player before the deal was hijacked by Frank Lampard and Chelsea with the Merseyside club ending up with a better option in Diogo Jota for just about the same price as Werner.

For Noel Whelan, the 26-year-old has not come anywhere close to justifying his £48 million price tag.

Timo Werner’s comment on wanting to play more and hinting that he could be open to leaving Chelsea did not sit well with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel who stated he did not understand his compatriot’s statements.

It’s those statements that Whelan responds to by slamming the player in his chat with Football Insider:

“When he came in, everyone expected great things from him. We have not seen anything close to that. I think the Premier League has crept up on him, and he just realizes how tough it is,” He said.

“You might be quick or have had success in other leagues – but you are playing against international defenders week-in, week-out in England.

“He’s disappointed the Chelsea fans and definitely been a disappointment for the board – considering the money they paid for him.

“Now he’s getting that whined about him. He’s making little comments. At the end of the day, if he’s not happy in the Premier League, then he’s got to get out. Pace alone cannot help you,” he added.
