A Crystal Miracle for Liverpool against Palace

Liverpool are never fond of doing things the easy way and saving their fans a lot of heartache. In fact, a game without the heartache for a Liverpool fan, is perhaps a boring day, which wasn’t as the Reds faced off a Crystal Palace side with ambitions.

As it has always been the tradition, Jurgen Klopp‘s men started the game again in slow fashion, giving their opponent several chances to take a niff at the goal post. And thanks to the timely intervention of the goalie, Alisson Becker who returned to the Liverpool lineup in time to keep his team in the game with a very crucial save deny Palace in the first half.

But what is a premier league weekend without the narratives or the VAR controversy?

Like it is with every premier league weekend, a controversial decision came in the first half for an adjudged penalty that ultimately went denied for Crystal Palace due to a foul on Liverpool’s Endo Wataru prior to the foul on Odsonne Edouard by  Virgil van Dijk in the 29th minute.

However, as lucky as Liverpool were to avoid the penalty call and a yellow card for Virgil van Dijk, the Reds weren’t lucky in the second half as a foul in the box by Liverpool defender, Jarrell Quansah meant Crystal Palace had to be gifted a penalty.

Substitute, Jean-Philippe Mateta was on hand to give Crystal Palace the lead as he converted the spot kick to net past Alisson Becker.

But the Reds were not new to going down and coming back into the game from a losing position, and perhaps for the millionth time this season, Liverpool created the narrative once more to net the equalizer in the 76th minute, shortly after Jordan Ayew was sent off via a second yellow.

And who better to put the Merseyside team on level terms than Mohamed Salah?

The Egyptian’s equalizer came just about when it was most needed, with Salah picking the right time and the right spot to score his 200th Liverpool goal since signing for the club.

Again, from a losing position, Liverpool crawl their way to win the game in the 91st minute, with Harvey Elliott the match winner, thanks to a stunner from outside the box.
