Paris Olympics: One Nigerian makes it to the final

The Paris Olympics have been a very quiet affair for Nigeria in this current edition, with a lot of Nigerian athletes exiting the tournament at an early round or encountering some challenges like sprinter Favour Ofili.

However, one Nigerian has succeeded in getting to a major final in the shot-put category.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi emerges the man as he once again proves his prowess on the global stage, securing a spot in the men’s shot put final at the 2024 Olympic Games. The 31-year-old African champion impressed with a throw of 21.13m, placing fifth overall in qualification Group B.

Enekwechi’s qualification marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first Nigerian athlete to reach a final at the ongoing games. This achievement follows his memorable performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he also reached the shot put final.

With a place on the podium within reach, Enekwechi is set to compete in Saturday’s final, carrying the hopes of a nation. Will he secure a historic medal for Nigeria? All eyes are on the formidable shot putter as he prepares to make history.

The Olympics tournament in U.S Atlanta 1996 was by far Nigeria’s golden age in the summer Olympics tournament with no other competition coming close to rival that age of Nigeria’s athletes.
