In a recent statement, Lionel Messi’s bodyguard, Yassine Cheuko opened up about who the Argentine captain is behind all the cameras and the pitch side monitors.
Yassine Cheuko, speaking about his boss, shared a memorable moment with the football legend that showcased Messi’s real nature and the humility and appreciation that is to the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Following Messi’s record-breaking 2023 Ballon d’Or win, Cheuko recounted how the star forward made him feel like part of the family.
While on a plane after the award ceremony, Messi handed Cheuko the prestigious trophy, jokingly declaring him “the winner of the Ballon d’Or for the best bodyguard.” Cheuko, visibly moved by the gesture, recalled thinking,
“At first, I thought he wanted me to carry it somewhere else,” but was soon surprised by Messi’s playful announcement to his family.
Cheuko expressed his deep gratitude and respect for Messi, noting, “Messi does not consider me only his bodyguard but also a friend. It was a beautiful moment and words I will never forget from the best player in the world.”
He added that his role extends beyond physical protection, as he also supports Messi psychologically, underscoring the strong bond of trust and friendship they share.
Yassine Cheuko’s comments surfaces at quite the odd time however, as the media eye watches Messi’s Argentine teammates after a video had gone viral of them chanting an alleged racist song aimed at French players after the Copa America win.
