"Ten Hag is papering over the cracks" -- Gabby Agbonlahor

Manchester United boss, Erik ten Hag is still receiving backlash from his recent comments ranking himself behind Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola.

In a scathing critique, former Aston Villa captain, Gabby Agbonlahor who never shies from voicing his thoughts, questions the Dutchman’s assertion.

Erik ten Hag had sparked controversy after self-assessing himself as the second-best manager in the Premier League, trailing only Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola. In the interview, the Manchester United boss highlighted his trophy wins—the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup—since taking charge in July 2022, and his notable victories against top teams like City and Liverpool.

Appearing on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor didn’t mince words, labeling some of Ten Hag’s post-match comments as “delusional.” He pointed out United’s dismal eighth-place finish last season, their worst in over 30 years, and their record 83 goals conceded, painting a starkly different picture of Ten Hag’s tenure.

“But Manchester United finished eighth, their lowest top-flight finish in over 30 years, they conceded 83 goals last season, the highest in their history,” Agbonlahor remarked, underscoring the inconsistency in Ten Hag’s claims versus United’s performance stats.

While Agbonlahor acknowledged United’s impressive 2-1 victory over City in the FA Cup final, he described it as “papering over the cracks.” Despite the win, he suggested it masked underlying issues within the team that need addressing.

The stage is set for a compelling narrative in the Premier League, where words and actions will inevitably collide. Will Ten Hag prove his doubters wrong, or will Agbonlahor’s critique ring true?
