How Jadon Sancho cheated Manchester United for free

Jadon Sancho officially departed Manchester United on a loan spell with Borussia Dortmund until the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.

The move marks the end of Sancho’s near five-month hiatus from competitive action, with the English winger’s last appearance for United dating back to their 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on August 26.

Sancho’s absence from the pitch escalated following his exclusion from the squad for United’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on September 5.

Since then, a rift ensued between Sancho and manager Erik ten Hag, leading to unsuccessful talks and Sancho’s subsequent exclusion from both matchday squads and first-team training.

The reported terms of the loan arrangement indicate that Manchester United will cover one-third of Sancho’s salary, which is estimated to be £250,000, during his time with Borussia Dortmund.

The winger’s return to the Bundesliga side is not only aimed at rediscovering his best form but also at rekindling the joy of playing alongside his teammates.

On a closer look, despite facing a 5-month absence from football on disciplinary grounds, Sancho seem to have gotten the better outcome from the scenario.

He earned an impressive £35,714 per day, totaling over £4.9 million without doing anything for the club, whether media duties or marketing campaigns.

In fact, it was reported that Manchester United had frozen the winger out from the team’s season photo.

That said, the canon is still loose, and Manchester United still holds the trigger as Dortmund’s request to include an option to buy clause in the loan agreement was rejected.

Hence, no matter the outcome of Sancho’s stint in Germany, the Red Devils still have a say in his future.

Expressing his eagerness about joining the team, Sancho said;

“I can’t wait to see my teammates again, get out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, get assists, score goals, and help the club qualify for the Champions League.”
