"I am Sorry, I never meant any harm" -- AY to Davido

In a surprising turn of events, popular Nigerian stand-up comedian AY Makun has taken to his Instagram handle to issue a heartfelt apology to the renowned musician Davido.

This public apology comes in the wake of a controversial joke AY Makun made during one of his performances in Warri, Delta State.

In the apology post, AY Makun expressed remorse for the ill-received joke, acknowledging that it fell flat and failed to elicit laughter from the audience, contrary to his previous successful deliveries during his tour in the United States and Canada.

The comedian recognized the backlash he received and acknowledged that Davido had every right to be upset, especially considering how the incident was sensationalized by various blogs and media outlets.

He stated,

“I am so sorry for telling that joke the way it came out in Warri. I shouldn’t even call it a joke anymore. It wasn’t funny like it was during my tour of the US and Canada, and you have every right to be angry after seeing how the blogs used it.”

AY Makun, known for his witty and entertaining comedy, humbly accepted responsibility for the poorly executed joke, emphasizing that such experiences are a part of the learning curve in the entertainment industry.

He went on to assure Davido that he held no excuses for his actions and addressed him affectionately as “my Aburo,” a Yoruba term meaning “my younger sibling.”
