5 things to always remember when rejected

Published

on

Whether it be at work, school or in a relationship, it can be frustrating when someone overlooks you and does not give you a chance. Rejection is necessary medicine; it teaches you how to reject relationships and opportunities that are not going to work, so you can find the right ones that will. It does not mean you aren’t good enough; it just means someone else failed to notice what you have to offer meaning you now have more time to improve yourself and explore your options.

Here are 5 things to always put in mind when rejection hurts

  1. Everyone experiences rejection.

Even the most intelligent, most successful people on the planet get cheated on too. It’s a common human experience, and though it can be painful, what hurts more is the belief that rejection says something about our worth.

  1. Success is the best revenge

After being rejected, or not even considered, you may have some feelings of contempt. Prove to that teacher who deemed you unworthy or boss who looks at you as inferior that they were wrong. Strive for success and happiness, and when you are successful and happy.

  1. Trying to be something we are not just to please someone else is essentially rejecting ourselves.

Because then we do not get to discover who we are and be that person. We get stuck in the role we know they want us to be. We cheat ourselves of an authentic existence. What people like or need is strictly personal to them and dependent on where they are in their lives. If someone rejects you because they want something else, that does not mean there’s something wrong with you. It just means they’re not the right match for you.

  1. As one door closes, another one opens.

As cliché as it sounds, it is true. Everything does happen for a reason. Even if you don’t think it now, in hindsight, you will realize that event or decision was for the better. There are so many opportunities for you, and just because you did not  get one, it should not stop you from pursuing another. So move on from self-pity to the next one.

  1. It’s a part of life. Rejection is a part of life. If you have experienced it, consider yourself lucky. You now know that you can survive it. If you have not, believe me when I say this: You will be okay. And perhaps, as it did for me, rejection can lead you to a deeper sense of self-love and self-acceptance.
