Five persons identified as members of the Lazarus Muoka-led Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Church on Monday evening escaped death in a ghastly motor accident along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway.

The survivors, were said to be returning from a religious crusade of the church, which held in Benin City, Edo State, and were heading towards Abakaliki, Ebonyi State where they reside, when the accident happened.

The Mercedes 190 car with registration number MUS 984 BX, conveying them had skidded off the road and fallen into a huge drainage, causing a big damage to the vehicle.

The unhurt passengers were helped out by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC, who rushed to the scene to assist in bringing them out of the vehicle.

One of the occupant of the car, Ruth Kalu, who sat in front when the accident happened, attributed the cause of the accident to faulty brake system.

“I noticed when the driver was battling with the break pedal and it couldn’t responded. He hit another private car coming out from a junction in the area and left the front badly damaged.

“We were heading to Abakiliki after a three-day crusade held by the Lord’s Chosen Church at Benin. We thank God that nobody in the vehicle was injured,” she said.

Another occupant of the vehicle, Kenneth Ozumeh, who expressed surprise that none of them sustained any injury, despite the enormity of the crashed, described it as an act of God.

In his reaction, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, (FRSC), Mr. Sunday Ajayi, regretted the rate at which accidents occurred in the area.

He advised drivers to always be vigilant and reduce their speed while plying the road in view of the sloppy topography of the area, just as he called on road users to always be obedient to road safety laws for their own safety.
