49 killed as COVID-19 surges again in Nigeria

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported 49 fresh COVID-19 deaths in the country as infections shot up drastically.

 

According to information from the NCDC, Lagos accounted for 18 of the deaths, as its death toll jumped from 604 to 622.

Deaths were also reported in Rivers, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Ondo.

Figures released by the centre on Saturday also showed that the nation reported 964 new cases of COVID-19, over 100 percent higher than the 444 cases posted the previous day.

Lagos posted a huge 456 fresh cases, while Ondo reported 180 cases and Edo, 66 cases.

The NCDC said the rise in Lagos’ cases was as a result of the backlog from 3rd (237), and 4th (219) September, 2021.

Total confirmed COVID-19 cases now stand at 195,052, with 182,463 survivors discharged.

However, new cases were reported in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
