42-year-old man charged to court after stealing iron rods

On Monday, Kabiru Olanrewaju, a 42-year-old man, appeared before an Osun State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly stealing some iron rods.

 

The accused, who appeared before Magistrate Risikat Olayemi on one count of stealing, was allegedly caught with 12 pieces of iron rods by a night guard in the Oke Ayepe area of Osogbo.

Olanrewaju had no legal representation and pleaded guilty to the charge.

The charge read, “That you, Kabiru Olanrewaju, on March 22, 2020, at Oke Ayepe area, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, had in your possession 12 iron rods reasonably suspected to have been stolen.”

The police prosecutor, Rasaq Olayiwola, said the accused was handed over to the police after he was apprehended by the guard.

According to him, the offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 430, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

Olayemi directed the police to identify the owner of the stolen rods and present the facts of the case at the next sitting.

She remanded the accused in police custody and adjourned the matter till March 26, 2020, for the presentation of facts.
