25-year-old man arrested for alleged rape and blackmail of lady he met on Facebook
The Ogun State police have apprehended a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping and blackmailing a girl he met on social media platform, Facebook.
TopNaija reports that on Monday, May 9, a young man, identified as Ebenezer Adeshina has been apprehended by the detectives of Ogun State Police Command after he allegedly had carnal knowledge with a 16-year-old girl [name withheld] he met on Facebook a year ago, 2021, while blackmailing her for a sum of N50,000 in return for not releasing her nudes out in the public.
TopNaija understands that a complaint was lodged at Owode Egbado divisional headquarters by the victim, who stated that she met the suspect on Facebook sometime in 2021, and they began chatting.
According to the victim, they both lost communication because her phone got spoilt along the line. However, in March this year, 2022, the said suspect called her phone and asked why she didn’t chat with him anymore, of which she informed him of her spoilt phone.
She said the suspect then asked her to come to his house so that he could give her N3,000 for the repair of the phone, unbeknown to her of his hidden agenda. On getting there, she was offered a drink that had been dosed with a sedative drug.
while in an unconscious state, the suspect had carnal knowledge of her against her wish as he used to take her nude pictures and threatened he would upload the pictures on social media if she didn’t pay him the sum of fifty thousand naira.
Confirming the incident, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, spokesperson of the state police command said upon the report, the DPO Owode Egbado division, CSP Muhammad S Baba, detailed his detectives to go after the suspect. He said the suspect was eventually apprehended and he has confessed to the commission of the crime.
Abimbola added that the commissioner of police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-human trafficking and child labor unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
