21 Ibadan monarchs lose seats after court ruling

21 Ibadan monarchs have lost their seats after a State High Court on Tuesday set aside the gazette that installed them.

Fifty-three months ago, they were elevated and crowned obas in Ibadanland by the immediate past Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi,

In granting the terms of settlement jointly filed by the state government and the claimant who doubles as the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja,  Justice A. Aderemi  Aderemi said since the parties had met and agreed, he was left with no option but to set aside the gazette.

Ladoja in 2018 won a landmark judgment that quashed all the processes that led to the coronation of his fellow high chiefs and some Baales numbering 21 on August 27, 2017, by the Ajimobi government.

The state government, who was not satisfied with the judgment, approached the   Court of  Appeal. The appeal was pending at the court as of the time  Ajimobi left office on May 29.

His successor,  Seyi Makinde opted for an amicable resolution of the dispute which had pitted the 21 kings against the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji since 2017.
