2 Police Officers killed at Checkpoint in Enugu

In an attack by gunmen on Thursday, 2 police officers were shot dead at a police checkpoint at the MTD Junction, Garriki, Akwuke in Enugu State.

The incident which took place in the Enugu South Local Government Area forced residents around the vicinity to run around in a bid to avoid stray bullets as the shooting began.

The gunmen were said to have attacked the checkpoint in the early hours of the morning.

Speaking of the attack, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe revealed that the police command’s tactical squad was on the trail of the assailants.

“There was an attack on policemen on stop and search this morning along Agbani Road, close to Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway, by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.

“However, details of the incident are still sketchy, while the command’s tactical/operational operatives have been mobilised and are on the trail of the miscreants. Further development will be communicated, please.” He said.

Gun men parading the South East and other parts of the country have become a plague to the common citizen and even to security operatives who too have become victims to gun violence.

It is unclear what prompted the attack as reports are unclear at the moment.
