2 police officers killed as gunmen attack Ubakala police station [PHOTOS]

Gunmen in the early hours of Monday burnt down the Ubakala Divisional Police Station in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia and murdered two police officers.

The gunmen also burnt down all the vehicles in the buildings. The representative of the Police Command in Abia, SP Godfrey Ogbonna, affirmed the incident.

The Ubakala Divisional Police Station in Umuahia, Abia burnt down with explosives

Ogbonna stated that the assailants invaded the station just after midnight with explosives.

As indicated by him, the officials, who were positioned to strengthen security at the station, attempted to ward off the attackers.

“In the process, we lost two of our men,” he disclosed, stating that the number of the assailants had yet to be determined.

An inhabitant of the area who did not want to be named, stated that the midnight attack instigated severe fright among residents of the community.

The eyewitness said, “We were asleep when suddenly we began to hear serious gunshots.

“Everybody in my house was woken up by the sound and then came an explosion, followed by fire.”

The police station destroyed totally

In the meantime, police declared that no arrest had been made, but complete investigations were in progress to get the culprits of the attacks, which had left several of its men either deceased or with gunshot injuries.
