2-academy players promoted to Manchester United first-team

Manchester United have fast-tracked two of their academy prodigies to the first-team squad just days before the Premier League opener against Fulham.

Full-back Harry Amass and forward Ethan Wheatley have been officially promoted, marking a significant step in Erik ten Hag’s preparations for the new season.

The decision comes after a tough FA Community Shield showdown at Wembley, where United suffered a heart-wrenching defeat against Manchester City. Despite leading for most of the match, Bernardo Silva’s late equalizer forced the game into penalties, where Pep Guardiola’s side ultimately triumphed.

With the summer transfer window closing in, United are not done yet. Having already secured deals for striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and Lille’s defensive talent Leny Yoro, the club is reportedly on the brink of finalizing a double swoop for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the duo is set to undergo medicals at Carrington, with contracts ready for signing.

Erik ten Hag, reflecting on the Wembley defeat, emphasized the need to channel the disappointment into a fuel for success, praising his team’s competitiveness and resilience. “You have to feel the pain,” Ten Hag stated. “We were very competitive and passionate in the fight, and that is what we demand from our players.”
