16-year-old boy arrested for attempting to unearth corpse from cemetery in Niger state

A 16-year-old suspect has been paraded by the Niger State Police Command for attempting to unearth a corpse from a grave in Niger State.

On Saturday, May 21, police operatives from Chanchaga Division detained the culprit, identified as Lawal Abubakar, of Kasuwan-Gwari in Minna for trying to exhume a corpse at Chanchaga of the said State.

During interrogation, he admitted to having conspired with one Salisu of the same area, who is currently at large, to obtain body parts and cloth from the cemetery for N5,000.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 24, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed, saying that the suspect also committed a similar act last year, 2021 at Bosso cemetery, when he unearthed and removed four fingers from a cadaver.

He confessed further that he was sent by one Sadiq to get the fingers and was paid three thousand naira,” the PPRO stated.

Case under investigation as effort to apprehend Hamisu and Sadiq is ongoing, suspect will be prosecuted accordingly after investigation.” he added.
