115: "They want us gone" — Guardiola fires back at EPL rivals

It is no secret that the Premier League has become Manchester City’s birthright since Pep Guardiola made them a dominant force in English football. Hence, no matter what City achieves, envy flies at them from all corners of the league.

Speaking ahead of his match against Brentford, Pep Guardiola was all fury mixed with his usual sarcastic demeanor when the topic of La Liga president, Javier Tebas’ recent statement on Manchester City was brought forward.

The Manchester City boss as typical of him, asserted that Tebas was right in his assertion that many of City’s premier league rivals are desperately looking forward to the club’s eventual downfall with the alleged 115 financial fair play charges placed against them by the league.

“Maybe he’s right,” Guardiola initially said of Tebas’ assertion.

“For the fact that all the Premier League teams want us to be sanctioned, that is for sure. I agree with Tebas for the first time, and hopefully the last. I am pretty sure I agree with that.”

The Spaniard’s comments come at a time when City’s reputation and dominance in English football are under intense scrutiny. The Premier League champions have been at the center of the storm, facing accusations related to financial mismanagement, and Tebas didn’t hesitate to voice what many within the league may be thinking.

According to Tebas, numerous Premier League clubs have privately shared their view that City deserves to be sanctioned if found guilty, a sentiment that has added fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding financial fair play in the league.

But Guardiola is not backing down. He took the opportunity to issue a clear message to his Premier League rivals and Tebas:

“That’s why I say to Mr. Tebas and the Premier League teams: wait for the independent panel.”

While it will be saddening to see a harsh fate befall Manchester City if found guilty, a guilty verdict is certainly what many rival fans are looking forward to in the ‘Premier League v. Manchester City’ case.
