115 charges: La Liga chief drops bombshell on Manchester City

La Liga president Javier Tebas has reignited the debate surrounding the 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules by Manchester City, claiming that most Premier League clubs believe City should face serious punishment. These charges, linked to financial irregularities between 2009 and 2018, could result in a points deduction—or even relegation—should City be found guilty.

While the case continues to drag on, Tebas has consistently criticized both Manchester City and the Premier League’s handling of the matter. His latest comments suggest that behind closed doors, several English clubs share his view.

According to Tebas, City escaped UEFA’s ban due to a “formal matter,” but the Premier League’s unresolved investigation has already, in his eyes, hurt the league’s credibility.

Speaking to Goal, he claims to have had discussions with several Premier League clubs, stating that the overwhelming sentiment is clear: “I have spoken with many Premier League clubs, and most of them understand that City should be sanctioned.”

The timing of the case remains uncertain, with a verdict unlikely to arrive before the end of the season. However, if City is found guilty, the repercussions could send shockwaves through the Premier League, potentially shifting the balance of power. Meanwhile, Tebas’s remarks continue to stir up controversy, placing City firmly back under the microscope as they battle to clear their name.

“The Premier League is the best competition in the world,” Tebas said earlier this year, “but it is important to manage its reputation in the economic sphere.”

Will the Premier League enforce harsh penalties, or will Manchester City once again avoid major sanctions? Time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: the pressure is mounting.
