The Blues hosted Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League tie at Stamford Bridge last night.

Willian gave the home side the lead with a sensational strike just after the hour-mark. But a mistake from Andreas Christensen allowed Messi to score his first goal against the west London side.

It ended a 730-minute drought against Chelsea after the 30-year-old let loose a crisp left-foot drive with 15 minutes to go. And despite all their possession, it was the Catalan club’s only real chance on goal.

But it was enough to sway the advantage back in Barca’s favour, who will now host the return tie in three weeks time.

And Chelsea and Barcelona fans have took to social media to vent their frustrations and celebrate the result. One Barca fan said: “People may say stuff about Barcelona tying but that’s a great result IMO.

“Away goal, Messi goal, Away from home? I’ll take it.

“Camp Nou is a fortress and we will destroy Chelsea there.”

A Chelsea fan hit back saying: “Messi was useless in this game. All of Barca was and the goal only happened because of a freak mistake.

“And if everything would’ve gone our way we would’ve won 3-0 or 3-1.”
