World-Class Design in Regional Markets

Hosted in partnership with Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN), the 2017 IFI CONGRESS will bring together creative leaders and professionals, from all corners of the globe, to explore the power and potential of design in developing societies and cultures around the world

In November 2017, the International Federation of Interior Architects / Designers (IFI), the unique world body for Interiors and a design INGO, will explore how creativity can serve as a vehicle for social and economic transformation through a series of international events in Lagos, Nigeria..

To identify how the world’s foremost design experts are using their skills to enhance human health and well-being, leaders from across industries will explore the 2017 IFI CONGRESS theme, World-Class Design in Regional Markets, from various regional and disciplinary perspectives. A morning session will be opened by IFI President 2015-17, Sebastiano Raneri, and will feature keynote speeches from world-renowned architects, artists and designers, including:

-Sir David Adjaye Principal, Adjaye Associates
-Mr. Kunlé Adeyemi Principal, NLÉ
-Prof. Dr. Carol Becker Dean of Faculty and Professor of the Arts, Columbia University’s School of the Arts
-Prof. Alfredo Brillembourg Co-Founder, Urban-Think Tank (U-TT); Co-Chair, Architecture & Urban Design, Swiss Institute of Technology (ETH)
-Prof. Dr. Lou Yongqi Dean of the College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University

The event will run parallel to the African Culture & Design Festival, a four-day art exhibition organized under the theme “This is Africa” and featuring renowned African curators and artists. The exhibition will explore the artistic history of the continent and chart the future of African design.

An afternoon session will include keynote speeches and panel discussions with African Culture & Design Festival artists and curators: Ms. Ronke Ashaye (Curator of the National Museum in Lagos) and Ms. Bisi Silva (Director of the Centre for Contemporary Art in Lagos; Curatorial Consultant, Bisi Silva Projects).

The 2017 IFI Congress (Registration Required) and African Culture & Design Festival are free and open to the public.

CRITICAL DATES
09 November 2017 – Opening Reception.
10 November 2017 – Full day of IFI Congress with keynote speeches and panel discussions covering the full spectrum of art, design, innovation, social culture and planning for design excellence and responsible development for greater prosperity.
11 November 2017 – Special Tours of the exceptional African, Culture and Design Festival with world renowned curators and artists.
