Residents Complained Over Failed Sango-Abeokuta Expressroad

It was reported that Motorists and residents of Iyana Ilogbo, Owode, Ijako, Joju and Sango areas of Ogun State have appealed to the federal government to come to their aid by repairing the failed portions of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway between Sango and Iyana Ilogbo.

For sometime now the portion of the expressroad from Sango to Iyana Ilogbo has been unmotorable

PMNEWS gathered that two weeks ago a woman in a bus lost her 3-month old pregnancy due to the bad nature of the road.

In an interview with PMNEWS, some bus drivers who ply the road everyday accused the Federal government of neglecting the road and causing them untold hardship.

They said a journey of less than 10 minutes between Sango and Iyana Ilogbo now takes them more than an hour.

Commuters also complained that fares between Sango and Iyana Ilogbo had increased astronomically due to the poor nature of the road.

Complaining about the high fares along the axis, a commuter who identified himself as Charles Ogundero said: ”Before we were paying N50 between Sango and Onihale but now the fare has doubled to N100 due to the poor road.

”When it rains, it is always very difficult to move around these areas because of the bad road. It is so serious that motorists spend hours in the traffic caused by the poor road.

”I am appealing to the Federal and Ogun State government to please do something urgently about the road before the rain starts. The road is always unpassable during the rainy season.

A driver who identified himself as Mutiu Musbau said the bad road is taking a heavy toll on his vehicle. ” I visit the mechanic almost on daily basis to change either my tyre or shock absorber spoiled by the bad road.

”I am begging the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola to assist us with the repair of the road before the rains start.”

A community leader at Iyana Ilogbo, Pastor James Olufemi pleaded with Governor Amosun to intervene and ensure the road is quickly rehabilitated before the rainy season comes.

”Governor Amosun should please assist us to repair the road and save us from nightmare which the road has constituted to our free movement and commercial activities,” he said.
