why you should practice Self-Affirmation in your personal life

Self-affirmation is defined as the way you cope with information around you that may affect your self-esteem. Self-affirmations are positive statements or self-scripts that can condition the subconscious mind to help you develop a more positive perception of yourself. Affirmations can help you to change harmful behaviors or accomplish goals, and they can also help undo the damage caused by negative scripts, those things which we repeatedly tell ourselves that contribute to a negative self-perception.

Words can either affirm or put you down depending on how you apply them in your life. They can also change the way you see yourself and the world. Self-affirmation is one of the ways in which you can honor the goodness and adequacy that is innate in you, and you need to practice this in a healthy way in order to become a balanced person.

Affirming your self-worth everyday will greatly contribute to your well-being. This is because negative self-talk can erode your perception of yourself, and would translate to negative behavior towards yourself and others.

Some of the ways in which you can do self-affirmation would be:

  • Spend some time in front of the mirror and talk to yourself about how you can do extraordinary work during the day.
  • Reconnect with your spirit. Ask yourself about your purpose in life whether you are a housewife, a student, a worker, or a leader. Reiterate this sense of purpose so that it would give the motivation to work.
  • Define your personal outcomes. Make a list about what you wish to accomplish today so that you will have more motivation to finish every task.
  • Treat yourself and celebrate milestones in your life.
  • Always imagine what your best self will look like physically, emotionally, interpersonally, and psychologically. Defining your best version of you will do wonders.
  • Always be in touch with your passions as well as what you are good at. This will increase a sense of gratitude in your life.
