The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the September 22, 2018 gubernatorial election in Osun state is inconclusive.

Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP) had polled 254,698 votes to defeat Gboyega Oyetola (APC) who polled 254,698 votes.

Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Joseph Fuwape made this announcement in Osogbo on Sunday, adding that Thursday, September 27th will be the date for rerun.

Fuwape said that since the difference in votes between the two leading candidates is lesser than the registered cancelled votes (3,498), the election had to be declared inconclusive, according to INEC’s standing rules.
