Lights Camera Africa! Film Festival 2017 challenges citizens on engagement

The 7th edition of the Lights Camera Africa!!! Film Festival, a 3-day cultural fiesta which held from 29 September – 1 October, 2017 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos culminated in a panel session on the event finale as participants and guests deliberated on the importance of citizen engagement.

Headlining the last day of the event, influencers such as Adebola
Williams, Aduke Gomez, and Emeka Keazor joined Film Festival
Co-Founder, Ugoma Adegoke for a discussion on the theme ‘RESET’, as members of the panel emphasized the need to find a national identity that transcends tribe and ethnicity.

The festival was dedicated to the best of independent and African
films with well-curated sessions of insightful discussions, talks, and family-friendly programming, with a showcase that celebrated the most exciting films, visual arts and music from the continent and the Diaspora.

The opening show featured a cocktail reception and a preview of the Akin Omotoso-directed film ‘A Hotel Called Memory’. In attendance were several celebrities such as Olu Jacobs, Femi Odugbemi, Remi Vaughan Edwards, Joke Silva, Ego Boyo, among others, who all stepped out to celebrate the festival.

Other exciting films screened at the Festival include Bariga Sugar by Ifeoma Nkiruka; Bad Market by Paul Gaius; Shadeism: Digging Deeper by Nayani Thiyagarajah; Omode Meta Nsere by Remi Vaughn Edwards; and Vaya by Akin Omotoso. ,‘An Opera of the World’ by Manthia Diawara wrapped up the show.
