Learn your job quickly and impress your boss at work.

Your boss is the person with the greatest potential to improve your work life, since he or she has the most direct control over your daily activities, he or she would be one of those persons you must impress at your workplace.

Do your job well. Do the tasks assigned to you and try to avoid doing unrelated tasks at work, like wasting time on social media. Do things that improve your image as an employee, like reading books that are related to the job or those that will keep your mind sharp. Employees who do good work, consistently, efficiently, and professionally, allow for their manager to focus on critical issues within the organization. The less your boss has to focus on your accomplishing your daily tasks, the more he or she can focus on accomplishing his or hers.

Communicate with your boss. When you first start working with your boss, you should sit down and have a conversation about how he or she likes to communicate. Ask your boss if he or she likes to correspond by phone, e-mail or in person. Great communication is vital for building a strong relationship with your boss.

Be loyal to your boss. Always be a dedicated and honest employee. Never talk about your boss to colleagues in the office. Be a respectful and loyal employee, and keep those conversations between the two of you private.

Make your boss’s priorities yours. Your job is essentially all about meeting the boss’ priorities the way he or she wants it to be. It’s a team effort, with your boss the lead person. If something is not at the top of your list but your boss expresses that it’s a priority, then that makes it your priority too. Communicate with your boss regularly to make sure your goals and priorities are in sync.

Respond Quickly:  Responding quickly gives the impression that you are competent and efficient. Do not put off answering a text, email, or returning a phone call, particularly to your boss.  Delaying a response may lead the other person to assume that you are inefficient or simply not engaged in your work.

Seek solutions to problems. Do not rely on your boss to fix everything. When there is a challenge, do not just point it out, offer suggestions or, if possible, try to address the problem. When challenges spring up, try to avoid complaining and instead seek ways to solve the problem.

Take Notes at Meetings:  Taking notes at meetings signals to your boss that you are attentive and zoned in on what is taking place.  Although many people prefer to take notes on a laptop or pad, consider using pen to jot down important things as much as you can.

Be Positive: Show confidence and have an optimistic, “can-do” attitude, avoiding negative emotions. This will definitely get your boss’s attention and make you look like a model employee.
