As Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) prepares for the Local Government / Local Council Development Area elections, Lagos State PDP Chairman, Otunba Segun Adewale has indicated his willingness to work with all factions within the PDP in the State towards a successful outing in the July 22nd 2017 elections.
The chairman in a release today, urged all members and aspirants on the platform of PDP in Lagos State to work together despite the differences. “The success of our Party in the coming Local Government election should be our common goal. It is obvious that Lagosians trust in our ability to deliver quality development at the grassroots and we can’t afford to fail the people. The All Progressive Congress (APC) government has only offered our people unfulfilled promises at all levels.
Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had announced on Friday 7th April 2017 that it would conduct elections into the 57 Local Governments / Local Council Development Areas of the State on Saturday, 22nd July, 2017 while run-off / re-run elections would be conducted on Saturday, 29th July, 2017.
The notice further stated that political parties campaigns into the various LG elective offices should commence on Saturday, 15th April and end on Thursday 20th July, 2017 while collection of nomination forms by political parties would begin on Tuesday 18th April, 2017 and end on Friday, 19th May, 2017.
“In view of LASIEC notice, I hereby call on all factions within the PDP in Lagos to please work together with the State Organs of the Party recognized by law towards producing commonly acceptable candidates for the various offices. This is not the time to exhibit selfish aggrandizement or showcase egos as party leaders. It is a time to demonstrate a high level of partisanship towards ensuring the success of the PDP at the polls” Adewale said.
Political Parties were directed by (LASIEC) to conduct primary elections which must be observed by the commission between Monday, 17th April and Thursday, 18th May, 2017.  In this light, the party leader admonished all aspirants to visit the State Secretariat at 233, Abeokuta express way, Iyana Ipaja to obtain nomination forms while effort is ongoing to reconcile all grievances.
“We are ready to work with every faction in our efforts to ensure the victory of the People Democratic Party (PDP) at the Lagos State grassroots. We are calling on all aspirants to pick up nomination forms so as not to lose valuable time. We are willing to work with the various factions at all levels of the election process. What is paramount to us is to ensure that the PDP does not produce dual candidates at this election” the Chairman explained.
He cautioned that the mistake made by the PDP with the Ifako Ijaiye Federal Constituency election should not be allowed to repeat itself. He recalled that “While we were seeking peaceful resolution and an avenue to present a common candidate for the poll, some leaders were only interested in selling nomination forms and making money for themselves”.
Adewale alleged that the Markafi led faction of the PDP in Lagos is already selling nomination forms illegally to aspirants. According to him “this same group that cost us victory at Ifako Ijaiye federal constituency election is already selling chairmanship nomination forms at N220, 000 and councillorship at N100, 000 each to unsuspecting aspirants. They are not interested in the success of the PDP at the polls; their interest is to make money from sales of nomination forms despite not being recognized by LASIEC.”
He concluded by appealing to members to work together as one in the coming election. “My appeal is that we do not allow the same mistake repeat itself with the forthcoming LG elections. The PDP has all it takes to win elections in Lagos State if only we will put the interest of the party and the need to alleviate the suffering the masses first”.
