How first black woman in road racing died on ‘Deadpool 2’ set

Joi ‘SJ’ Harris has died while filming a stunt in the upcoming film, Deadpool 2.

The Brooklyn native who died on August 14, 2017, is the first black woman in road racing.

According to reports, Joi Harris died after her bike crashed through the window of a ground-floor studio. This was her first time doing stunts for a film.

Harris, filling in for Zazie Beetz, was not wearing a helmet when her bike’s throttle became engaged, leading to the fatal crash.

Harris started riding bikes in 2012, received her race license in May 2013 and started racing in 2014 with the American Sportbike Racing Association/Championship Cup Series.

Beetz honored Harris in a statement on her Instagram page:
