Driver Remanded In Court For Allegedly Sexually Assaulting A Minor

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a driver, Emmanuel Okafor, in Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly assaulting a minor sexually. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, refused the plea of Okafor, 35, and subsequently, remanded him in prison.
The accused, residing at Ogunbanwo Street in Ketu, near Lagos is being tried for sexual assault. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offence was committed on July 30 at the residence of the accused.
Donny said that the accused, residing in the same compound with the victim, a four-year-old-girl, took the child to the back of the house and assaulted her sexually.
“He was fingering the girl’s private part when the cry of the girl attracted other occupant and they traced where the crying was coming from. They caught the accused in the act and apprehended him before he thought of running away.” Donny said that Okafor was later dragged to the police station where he was interrogated.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The matter was adjourned until Aug. 22 for mention.
