Dolapo Osinbajo Hosts Over 5,000 People at the 2017 Obstetrics & Gynecology Day

Her Excellency Dolapo Osinbajo, Wife of the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria flagged off the annual free medical outreach known as Obstetrics & Gynecology Day (O&G Day) on Saturday June 11th, 2017 at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Olive Tree Parish, Banana Island, Lagos.

The O & G day medical outreach brought over 5000 people together including Christians, Muslims, children, women, and youths from different areas of Lagos. It was a huge community service project with different medical organizations providing free dental screenings and treatment, HIV tests, genotype screenings, fertility lecture, eye screenings and free glasses, free drugs and free breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Dolapo Osinbajo has been hosting the O & G day since 2003 and this is the 14th edition of the O & G day and thousands of women, children and men have benefitted from the selfless service. In her opening remarks “we should all be peaceful, happy and free to take up any medical screenings, treatment and support. Let’s love each other as friends, and as Nigerians” she said.

Project PINK BLUE supported by Roche Products Ltd through the ‘Pink Sunday’ Initiative hosted the free clinical breast examination with her team of nurses, provided breast cancer awareness, presentations on breast self-examinations and distributed 2210 breast cancer awareness materials. 187 women received free clinical breast examinations and women found with abnormality will be navigated to receive appropriate care and support.

Prof. Francis A. Durosinmi-Etti, Nigerian renowned oncologist and President of Cancer Education and Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CEAFON) made a presentation on breast cancer and he urged the women to be breast aware and be mindful of unusual signs in the body. The executive director of Project PINK BLUE, Runcie C.W. Chidebe was also at the medical outreach and addressed the women on the need to take their health seriously and to make monthly breast self-examination part of their monthly activity.

H.E. Dolapo Osinbajo toured all the medical screenings and treatment points, she visited Project PINK BLUE clinical breast examination screening tent and was received by Sarah A. Dantsoho, Patient Navigator and Emeka Nwagboso, Programme and Communication Officer, and they presented the Breast Self-Awareness Material (BSEM), Breast Self-Examination Material (BSAM) translated in Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and pidgin and the General Breast Cancer Awareness Material (GBCAM). Mrs. Osinbajo was delighted to receive the materials translated into Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Pidgin English.
