Customs discovers 1,100 packed pump action rifles, arrests officer

Officers of the Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, have arrested a syndicate that smuggled weapons into the country.

At least, 1,100 pump action rifles were loaded in a 20 foot container the gang shipped into the country.

Brought from Turkey, the weapons were concealed inside a container which Bill of Laden indicated was conveying wash hand basins.

Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Alli, disclosed that a Customs officer suspected to have cut the seal of the container without following due process, as well as a clerk at the command had been arrested.
