Court imprisons man for stealing bag containing N2000

A twenty-seven (27) year old man, Tope Akande was on Thursday dragged before an Ibadan North Grace C Customary Court sitting in Gbaremu, Ijokodo, Ibadan for stealing a bag worth two thousand naira (N2,000) belonging to Miss Damilola Akindoyin, a student of The Polytechnic Ibadan, TOPNAIJA.NG can confirm.

Akande who was later sentenced to four months imprisonment or an option of 4,000 fine was arraigned on a two count charge.

Police prosecutor, Sargent Kroseide Obehi from Sango Division told the court that the accused was arrested after he committed the offence at The Polytechnic Ibadan on 7th May 2018.

The charge sheet signed by ASP Falade Olatundun, Divisional Crime Officer of Sango Division reads “That you Tope Akande ” m” on the 7th day of May 2018 at Polytechnic Ibadan in the jurisdiction of Grade “C” Customary Court sitting at Gbaremu Ijokodo Ibadan did entered into Polytechnic Ibadan with intent to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 509 of the criminal code cap 38 vol.11 laws of Oyo state of Nigeria 2000.

“That you Tope Akande ” m” on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Grade “C” Customary Court did steal a student bag value N2,000 property of one Akindoyin Damilola committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 390 (9) cap 38 vol.11 laws of Oyo state of Nigeria 2000.

Akande who later pleaded guilty to the offence, however, urged the court to have mercy on him.
