CNN Sacks Marc Lamont Hill After United Nations Speech

Temple University Professor Marc Lamont Hill was relieved of his duties as a contributor at CNN. He was removed over his remarks about Israeli and Palestinian public policies during his U.N. speech. His remarks have caused controversy from conservatives and Pro-Israel groups alike.  Critics said his comments were extremely similar to Hamas and other groups that seek to eliminate the state of Israel.

In a swift response, spokeswoman Barbara Levin told the Washington Post that, “Marc Lamont Hill is no longer under contract with CNN.”

Hill attempted to defend his remarks on social media. He said, “At no point did I endorse, support, or even mention Hamas. This is dishonest,” he said Wednesday on Twitter. “I was very clear in my comments about desiring freedom, justice, and self-determination for EVERYONE.”

On Thursday, he continued the defense of his remarks. Hill argues, “My reference to “river to the sea” was not a call to destroy anything or anyone. It was a call for justice, both in Israel and in the West Bank/Gaza. The speech very clearly and specifically said those things. No amount of debate will change what I actually said or what I meant.”

Hill, a Media Studies Professor at Temple University in Philadelphia, is the author of several books. His work as a pop culture commentator has also been seen on BET and VH1.
