A commercial bus driver identified as, Kenneth Anyanwu, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison by a Lagos State Mobile Court sitting in Oshodi for stabbing an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)

Reports say that, Anyanwu stabbed Olanrewaju Yusuf with a broken bottle following an altercation April 26, 2018.

Sources say that Anyanwu flouted traffic rules when he stopped to pick passengers at undesignated bus stops between Obanikoro and Palm Grove in Lagos. Yusuf attempted to arrest Anyanwu for flouting traffic laws but Anyanwu resisted arrest, picked up a broken bottle and stabbed Yusuf in the palm.

In his ruling, Magistrate F.O. Ikobayo convicted Anyanwu to one-year imprisonment or a fine of N50,000 after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.

The magistrate also ordered the convict to pay N80,000 for Yusuf’s medical bills.
