Apply! Sudan Fulbright Program for Sudanese Students to Study in USA 2018

The United States Embassy Khartoum will begin accepting applications for the 2018 Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program. This program will award grants to Sudanese to pursue a non-degree research program in the United States of up to 10 months.

About the Award: The Sudan Fulbright Program is designed primarily to strengthen ties between US and Sudanese scholars. Although core exchanges are with universities, candidates who are affiliated with other educational, cultural, or professional institutions may apply.

Type: Masters

Eligibility: Successful applicants for the Sudan Fulbright Program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must be citizens or nationals of Sudan, or permanent residents holding a valid Sudanese passport.
  • Have at least the equivalent of a 4 year U.S. bachelor’s degree.
  • Sufficient level of English proficiency to engage in full-time graduate level study in the U.S.
  • Have outstanding academic records, references and preparation in their chosen field
  • Have high motivation and a serious commitment to completing the program within a specific time-frame and returning home immediately after the approved program.
  • Must meet minimum score on required standardized tests (TOEFL 575/90 is desirable, 600/100 is preferable)
  • Nominees with no extensive or recent U.S. experience will be given preference
  • Cannot have received more than one Fulbright Program grant. This applies to Humphrey Scholar alumni.
  • Local employees of U.S. missions abroad employed by the State Department are ineligible for grants during the period of their employment and for one year after the end of employment.

Selection: 

  • Copies of certificates, transcripts and letters of recommendation should be uploaded onto each applicant’s online application.  Applicants are free to attached score reports, such as TOEFL and GRE, if they have them.
  • All applications are reviewed by a local selection panel. Final nominations are reviewed in the United States by independent review committees.
  • While applicants can specify where they would like to study in the U.S., ultimate institutional placement for successful candidates will be made by the Institute of International Education (IIE).
  • Awards and university placement will be announced in October 2017 for programs beginning in November 2017. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted after review of the applications
