5 occasions you should always speak up with confidence

Speaking with confidence will improve every area of your life. Speaking up your mind is very important in life and it can free you up from risky situations. People will respect you and even see you as a leader because you are not afraid to speak up. Choosing not to speak up and be quiet can make your life difficult. This is because you will find people who hate you, bullies and even people with greed taking advantage of you. People respect others for speaking their minds when it adds value to a relationship, well-being, and a team or organization. Verbally standing your ground gives others a sense of your boundaries, values and what you offer. Conversely, choosing to remain silent can make your life more difficult.

Here are five occasions you should always speak up about with confidence. Never remain silent when:

  1. You need help and support

While you might think you need to prove you can go through it alone, human beings are hard-wired to be social. When you ask others for help, they are honoured to give you assistance and support. Just be mindful that you choose the right time to ask. Asking for support reduces stress and helps you succeed.

  1. You have a suggestion or an idea that will make a difference

Your observations about the way things could improve and ideas that may add value can’t make an impact unless you speak up.  No one can read your mind.  When you offer suggestions by describing the problem, your idea and its benefits, you are ensuring others will seriously consider your opinions.

  1. You feel there is something of concern that needs attention

When there is an issue that no one speaks about that is an obstacle to success, speaking out is the only way it can be addressed. By describing the concern non-judgmentally and pointing out the risks of ignoring it, you are ensuring the problem gets attention. Bringing out your concerns also fosters respect for people, rules and boundaries.

  1. You recognize someone’s efforts

Those around you thrive when receiving appreciation, gratitude and positive recognition. As social beings, we all need to be heard and feel understood. By speaking your mind with authentic empathy and admiration, others will feel inspired and know what works for you.

  1. You are confused, uncertain and need clarification

Confronting confusion starts with intuition. If you feel you are getting mixed messages or unclear signals, ignoring them is dangerous. Knowing what others expect from you helps you achieve success and deliver value.  You will also reduce any worries associated with uncertainty.
