Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and presidential aspirant for 2019 general elections, Professor Kingsley Moghalu has said that he would not be a candidate of any cabal in the country, insisting that he would defeat President Muhammadu Buhari going by the president’s performance in office. Kingsley Moghalu while speaking during the inauguration of Kingsley Moghalu Support Organization, KIMSO, in Awka, the presidential aspirant urged Nigerians to choose wisely in 2019, arguing that Nigeria needed a generational change to be able to move forward. According to him, while some of the aspirants were looking for blocks and groups to lean on to support their aspirations, he was presenting himself to Nigerians based on what he believed he could do to put the country on sound economic footing. He said: “We need somebody who can manage the economy well. I know what to do to fix the economy. Nigerians need to be told that this government has failed them. “Nine million people have lost their jobs since President Buhari came to power in 2015. Nigeria has become a killing field under him and Nigerians cannot sleep, even though we have a retired Army General as our president. “The hood does not make the monk because he is running on an old name. I will beat him by simply using his poor record. Under Buhari, Nigeria has become the poverty capital of the world.” Moghalu, who said he would name the political party under which he would contest the election before the end of this month, also dismissed the argument about zoning the office of president to any particular part of the country. “2019 is zoned to confidence and not to any part of Nigeria. Being an Igbo man is not a problem for me as I am entitled to contest for president. We should stop this issue of where one comes from because that is what promotes clannishness,” he said He identified leadership as the main challenge facing Nigeria, regretting that the country has been having transactional leadership, instead of transformational leadership. Moghalu explained that he would set up the Kingsley Moghalu Support Organization in all the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory, describing the group as a voluntary organization consisting of people not coaxed in any way.
